Digital Security

With the growth of digital technology in the security industry a new world of opportunities for fast, robust, intelligent, and affordable solutions has emerged.   The world of “analog security” is generally inefficient and primarily reactive in nature.  When digital tools are employed in a security solution, there are several distinct benefits achieved:

Convergence
We live in a digital world.  We are surrounded by existing hardwire, wireless, satellite and cellular networks.  As of 2004, one third of US homes have broadband access and the commercial use of high capacity networks is long established.  Most digital users have excess capacity on existing network infrastructure which can be utilized to quickly and efficiently implement digital based surveillance, access control, monitoring and alert systems.  EYEPI can show you how to reduce your overall installation and operation costs through convergence of your information technology and security infrastructures.

Data Analysis
Traditional or “analog” security solutions can be cost intensive platforms requiring continuous human patrol & monitoring or a reactive review of recorded media in a post-event investigation.  By utilizing digital solutions, all input to sensors and cameras is immediately translated to data streams which can be automatically monitored & evaluated using intelligent software.  In addition to faster, more consistent monitoring, a significant gain is achieved in the number of sensors that can be simultaneously monitored effectively.

Portability
Unlike analog sensors which serve a single purpose and can generally feed to only one monitoring or alert system, digital sensors can simultaneously interact with multiple platforms performing discreet simultaneous functions.  A single camera can feed to archival storage while also streaming the video and audio data streams to intelligent monitoring software as well as integrating with access control and environmental systems to trigger activities such as light activation and an area lockdown.  In addition, sensor data can be integrated with data from other sources such as HR databases to provide more robust and meaningful system reporting.

From a purely physical point of view, digital security systems, especially those implementing secure wireless communication, can be quickly and efficiently installed without the cost and intrusion of fixed wire installation.  This technology allows you to quickly position sensors and expand or re-configure the system without costly re-cabling expenses.

Remote Access
Once sensor input is in a digital state it can be easily delivered locally to many platforms and devices via an internal network or globally to any destination via the internet or private network circuits.  Imagine, immediate remote notification of system alerts using pre-defined alarms to mobile phones, pagers, PDA’s…or instantaneous notification of multiple parties of an event to speed reaction and intervention…or live streaming video delivered to event responders providing an advance view of what they are going to encounter.
